There are seven different ways to speak or write in a future tense or to talk about the future.
Future Simple looks like this: Subject + will + verb. This is used to make predictions, promises, and speculations. It's also used to state facts and make spontaneous decisions. Here are a few examples of Future Simple sentences: I will call my mom soon. Will you run with me tomorrow morning? They shall exit through the green door.
Future Continuous tense in its most basic form looks like this: Subject + will be + verb-ing. This tense is used to describe something that will be in progress at a moment in the future, to predict what is happening now, and refer to fixed future events. Here are a few examples: At this time next week, I will be getting married. She will probably be running mile three in the race right now. Will they be attending the dinner?
Future Perfect looks like this: Subject + will have+ past participle. Future Perfect is used to describe something that will be completed by a certain time in the past. Here are a few examples: By this time tomorrow, I will have finished the race. She will have learned to play the piano by the end of this week, I hope. They said they will have finished construction by the end of the week. At the end of the summer, I will have read 15 books.
A basic Future Perfect Continuous sentence looks like this: Subject + will + have + been + verbing. This tense is used to describe how long something has been going on by a certain time. Here are a few examples: By this time next month, she will have been working here for five years. By the time you arrive, I will have been drinking for an hour. When I get there tomorrow, will you have been playing for an hour?
Going to Future takes the basic form that looks like this: Subject + to be + going to + verb. Going to Future is used for intentions, predictions, and plans. Here are some example sentences: I am going to the park tomorrow. Are you going to run this evening? They are going to win.
Present Simple takes a basic structure that looks like this: Subject + verb. We can add on to Present Simple to make it a future tense. It is used to describe schedules, suggest a formal situation, or to create a more impersonal tone. Here are a few examples of Present Simple being used to describe the future: The train leaves at 11 am. The coffee shop closes at 11 pm. I leave at 9 am tomorrow to go to Georgia.
Present Continuous is the last tense. It takes a form that looks like this: Subject + are/am + verb-ing. It is used to talk about definite situations or to describe decisions without a timeframe. Here are some examples: I'm taking the dog when I go. We're going on vacation to Norway. She's biking this evening.
