This unit on teaching special groups provides advice for and overview of the different types of classes, including beginners, children, individuals, and business people. This course has taught me that teachers need to adapt based on the specific needs of their students. For example, when teaching young children, using simple language, visual aids, and short creative activities is helpful. Individual lessons are great for focused help and one on one attention but restricts group activities and discussions to those that can be accomplished with only the student and the teacher. The biggest advice for business English, or English for Specific Purposes, is that the teacher does not need to be an expert in the field. Rather, the teacher can gather the applicable vocabulary and skills and alter the lesson to be specific to that group.
