This unit explained the various tools that teachers often use in a classroom to supplement their lessons. The most important thing that I have learned from this chapter is that it is extremely important to plan ahead for lessons and to test all technology equipment before beginning a lesson. Because every country has a different set-up for their classrooms, it is also crucial for the teacher to familiarize themselves with the classroom aids that will be available to them at schools where they will be teaching. Teachers should not be using lesson aids as main teaching tools (for example, showing a DVD for the entirety of the lesson). Teachers should be mindful of which aids would be appropriate to use for the lesson goals that they would like their students to achieve. For example, if a teacher wants to have the class do a listening exercise, then using a cassette player would be appropriate. If a teacher is teaching the students about animal vocabulary, using visual aids such as pictures would be appropriate.
