As I come to an end of my Unit work, I am struck by two clear necessary considerations for my future teaching: What level do I feel I would be most effective at teaching, and how can I most efficiently improve in the areas my teaching my be weak (at the start). Clearly, being as well-prepared as possible is a key on all levels. However, I can also see that being fluid and willing to shift within a lesson can often times be a highly effective strategy for effective teaching. I may come across a school that has very strict lesson-plan courses, and even then I must find ways to pivot when I notice it is needed. It is quite clear there is a wide variety of student types and levels of understanding. Thus, being aware of each student's needs as much as possible, while not losing the core progress of the group, becomes the difference between a good and great teacher.
There is no doubt my future as a teacher will have obstacles and struggles depending on where I go. I look forward to each of them, as the goal is to assist students in overcoming their own. My success as a teacher is intrinsically linked to their success as English speakers.
