In this lesson, we covered receptive skills and how to properly instruct the students in learning these skills. This lesson is crucial in learning any language, and in particular English, as it allows the student to contend with material they wouldn't otherwise have confidence to use, given the right teaching methods. It is also crucial in this lesson to keep interest for all of the students. Granted, one cannot capture everyone's attention for every single lesson, so it is important to have a variety of topics to cater to every students interest. I found the types of skills that we use when reading and listening to be of particular interest, as I didn't realize how often I had employed each of these skills. For example, I often find myself skimming and scanning, however I did not realize how often I used predictive skills or deduction from context until it was laid out in this lesson. I believe that this lesson has also given me insight into how I learn other languages, which will be of great benefit when trying to teach students English.
