In my view teaching is a vocation, because the more a learner feels inspired and motivated to learn and improve learning strategies the more the confidence in one's worth grows. A good teacher should love teaching, be respectful and patient, be creative and entertaining, be an active listener, be able to motivate, have a good knowledge of the subject, be able to interact equally with the students, have the ability to give a constructive feedback and recognise the work and effort of all students. The teacher plays different roles during the lesson according to what the aim of the activity is, in general it goes from being manager/controller to being a participant, from being an assessor to being an observer, from being a prompter to being a model. A good learner is usually motivated to learn, accepts feedback and learns from past experiences, is willing to listen to and experiment with the language, however different factors can influence learning outcomes such as age, learning experience, motivation, life experience, nervousness, language awareness, behaviour problems and cultural background. Some of the most common reasons for attending English classes are: career prospects, travelling, exams, study or live in an English speaking country, communicate with people from a diverse cultural background and passion for foreign languages. In essence it is not easy to give an exact definition of what a good teacher or a good student is. The relationship between the teacher and the students is a very complex one but generally speaking a caring, sensitive, enthusiastic and motivated teacher is much more likely to have successful students.
