In section 8 I was once again faced with my language merely being ingrained within me, rather than my operating under perceived rules. It was once again a struggle to remember it is not merely the way I casually speak, but to deconstruct speech itself in order to attain correct answers.
Once again I was reminded that teaching the structure of language is much different than simply using call/response of words and hoping the memorization sticks in the minds of students. There is are axioms that must be attained by students and teacher alike. This structure allows for students to fall back to rules when needed. While English is notorious for having many soft rules in application; having an understanding of this framework can certainly be an advantage for committed students.
I will have to double my own reeducation into the structure of my own language throughout these Units. Some structures may not be a necessity for my personal experience. However, I would be daft to ignore my own bad habits and confusion in language. There may come a day where it is called upon for me to express such structure. I would hate to be without the knowledge to express such rules properly.
