Unit 11 covers the teaching of the receptive skills. It focuses specifically on the reading and listening aspects of the receptive skills. We learned that reading and listening generally have two motives, for pleasure and for a purpose. The unit then covers five different ways a student can listen and read; predictive, scanning, skimming, detailed information intake, and deduction from the context. Finally the unit discusses ways an instructor can ensure success when choosing lessons involving the receptive skills (which, in a language course, is virtually all lessons).
