I would assume this Unit has some rubbing their temple. We, as native English speakers, often take for granted how much of our learned language is now intuitive. To remind ourselves of the rules and terminology that we internalized so long go can be a bit of an unearthing. Even more important, the realization that explaining these rules to students yet to internalize the rules reminds us of the importance of being well-prepared. I have to admit, I found myself constantly second-guessing myself on prepositions vs adverbs, and overthinking a few questions on this test. While perhaps frustrating, this fact helps me recognize there is a form of re-education that must occur in order to be able to convey English properly to new speakers. Much of the English language is learning rules, and then memorizing the exceptions. Due to this fact, patience in it's teaching and commitment to learning it are equally important. I am unsatisfied with my own ability to call answers to the front of my mind instantaneously. But I also appreciate that this means I can empathize with students who may feel overwhelmed by the early rules. Because of that fact, I can also prepare both lessons and share my own struggles as a native speaker. If I can speak English well without recalling these rules, then there is hope for them as well, so long as they commit to their learning.
