Unit 9 Lesson Planning: this unit was about the importance of lesson planning and what the purpose of a lesson plan is.
The purpose of having a lesson plan is to aid you while you teach, it keeps you organised and on track while you teach. It is easy to go off topic or have the direction of the lesson change either before or during a lesson, students may not be ready to move forward on the next stage of learning or you realise during the lesson that something isn't working and need to change it to make it easier to understand. A lesson plan is there as a guide and if need be it should be easy to change when needed. Having the lesson written down allows you to estimate how much time each section of the lesson should go for, from engaging, to studying and then moving to activating, this also allows you to monitor how the lesson is flowing, and to see where and if you are having issues within one section of the lesson. You can use your lesson plan as a record to reflect on how the lesson went, what worked and what didn’t so that you can improve with the next lesson plan.
