This unit discussed the important qualities of a good teacher and a good learner. The qualities of a good teacher include both personality traits and professional traits. The qualities of a good learner can vary based on age and ability. I learned a teacher has several roles that impact the learning environment. Knowing what role to assume and when will foster a successful learning experience for both the teacher and the student. I learned the differences between adult and young learners and why that is important, and the different stages of language usage and fluency. There are pros and cons to each age group, but understanding what the positives are will help a teacher develop the appropriate lesson plan each class. It is critical to know what language stage your students are learning in. The role the teacher will play and the lesson plan should be based on this information. This unit provided a good foundation for becoming a successful language teacher.
