Pronunciation is a difficult but equally important field in the learning of English that is often under taught due to lack of confidence, training and the overall difficulty of the topic. The rise and fall in intonation in a sentence is critical in determining what the speaker actually wants to say. a fall/rise will often prompt the listener to make a response where as rise/fall can mean the speaker has finished or if answering a question they are not interested. Additionally stressing different words in a sentence can change the meaning dramatically. The phonetic alphabet seems quite tricky but would be a huge benefit knowing it as students use this to formulate sounds in the English language
