Unit 16 covers conditionals and reported speech. Conditionals are "if" sentences that reference possibilities. There are two clauses: the if clause and main clause. Conditionals are further broken down into zero, first, second, third, and mixed conditionals, depending on their use of present, past, or future tense. Boundless mistakes can arise from students (and teachers!). On a personal note, conditional mistakes are probably the most common mistakes I find in student essays. Students easily mix up when to use certain conditionals and their mistakes generally go uncorrected when speaking (which is sometimes necessary based on the activity). Unit 16 also covers reported and direct speech. Simply put, reported speech is communicating direct speech. The grammar involved here is generally verb tense shifts. Charts are provided to help make sense of the changes. Reported speech can be difficult to master because of the time jumps, and so there are many chances for mistakes and errors.
