Despite ESA being the focus of this course, I appreciated not being thrown straight into it; to be given a history of various teaching methods helped me truly understand why ESA was not only going to be the main method used/taught in this course, but also why it was one of the strongest methods available to EFL teachers. All of this information was given to support the foundational idea of the unit: that we learn our native languages through exposure, and it is that exposure and opportunity to hear and use the language that leads students to success. Even though ESA is the prominent method, and the one that I will need to stick to for this course/will probably stick to throughout my early teaching career, I am excited by the other methods and am imagining ways that I can incorporate them into lessons. With all of the different activities suggested for the different phases, this unit is the first where I am really beginning to feel that itch to create a lesson plan, get into a class, and teach!
