After learning this unit, I get a better understanding of the two receptive skills -- reading and listening and how to teach by using different skills. For example, predictive skills/specific information- scanning/general idea- skimming/detailed information and deduction from context. What most important for me are these aspects of successful receptive skills. 1. Choose materials that interests/motivates students 2. Build interest before reading/listening 3. Pre-teach complex vocabulary or structures if necessary, but don`t overdo it 4. Vary the type of material 5. Use the material to practice different skills 6. use realistic comprehensive tasks that aid understanding 7. Incorporate activate phases that naturally lead on from the text. I really benefit a lot from these above.
