This unit focused on teaching the two productive skills – speaking and writing. The unit gave lots of ideas of speaking and writing activities that can be used as teaching tools during class, as well as tips on how to best engage students. There were also sample lesson plans for speaking and writing exercises. At the end of the unit, there was a section on the purpose of games and a long list of fun and effective games we can use in our classrooms. I found a statement from the first part of the lesson to be very interesting; the author mentioned that often times, teachers do not like to focus on writing for a variety of reasons. When I was learning Spanish, a short writing was included in almost every class period and weekly at a minimum. I found this to be very effective, and I think I will use the strategies and info shared in this unit and incorporate a reasonable amount of writing into my lesson plans.
