In this unit we learned about the receptive skills, reading and listening. While teachers will want to focus on one skill in particular at a time it is important to have a balance of skills taught to make the lessons integrated and interesting for the students. The reasons and motivations for students learning these two skills can be divided into the categories of for purpose and for entertainment. Sometimes these motives will crossover with each other. In addition we learned about how we read and listen, the problems associated with these skills, creating interest in the lessons and ideas for receptive skills lessons.
