In this unit, course books and materials were taught. It covered the differences, advantages, and disadvantages between authentic and controlled materials. There is a valid use for both types of materials but the frequency at which they are used in the classroom is dependent on the teacher's creativity and the interest of the students. Authentic material can be a great confidence and motivation buster to the students when used correctly. Controlled materials are a good consistent starting point and syllabus for the teacher and student, as long as it is not used to heavily throughout the year.
