Modals, passive voice and phrasal verbs are significant to learn in English grammar. It is important for students to be able to construct their sentences in such a way that will not cause misunderstanding. Modals Auxiliary Verbs are used to express obligation, possibility/probability, permission, ability and advice. It is important to carefully use modal verbs as they refer to a certain attitude to the action. There are two voices in English which are Active and Passive. Active is used when the subject in the sentence performs the action whereas passive voice is used when the performer of the action is not known or not important. Students must learn the usage and how passive voice is formed. Relative clauses are group of verbs with a subject and verb. The three categories are Independent clause, Dependent clause and Relative clause. Phrasal verbs consist of a verb plus one or two particles. The three basic types of phrasal verbs are Type 1 - Intransitive, Type 2 - Transitive separable and Type 3 - Transitive inseperable. EFL students must learn the importance of English grammar to communicate and deliver the intended message correctly.
