I understood the meanings and uses of different kinds of modal auxiliary verbs such as can, could, might shall, etc. which are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb. These modal verbs can mean an obligation, permission, possibility, ability and advice. Unit 18 also discusses two voices used in English, namely: the active voice and the passive voice. In the active voice the focus is on the agent, which is the doer of the action. Meanwhile, in the passive voice the object of an active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb. Also, there are 3 types of phrasal verbs. Type 1 refers to intransitive verb which is not followed by a direct object in a sentence. Type 2 refers to transitive separable verb whose object pronoun can only come between the verb and the particle. Lastly, type 3 refers to transitive inseparable verb whose object phrase or pronoun both come after the particle.
