This unit examines the issue of whether to use a course book or not, giving both the advantages and disadvantages of using it. It also looks at other sources of materials which divides in two categories: the authentic materials which include anything a native speaker would hear or read (magazines, videos, films...) and creative ones which include all the materials that a teacher would use to supplement or replace the material offered by the course book in use. I found very helpful the criterias that are to be considered in analyzing a course book. I thing that among the most important ones there is the methodology that the book facilitates, teachers want to make sure that they are going to be able to apply the ESA methodology also using the course book they have chosen.
