It was very interesting to see the material presented in this unit reflected in my own life as a learner: I could quickly understand what it meant to be a good teacher because I could remember seeing the various roles being acted out by my past teachers; I could agree with all of the characteristics of what made a good teacher because I had made those points myself when describing my favourite teachers or professors. I saw the points describing a good learner and could think, "yes, this is what I wanted the students I tutored to do/be like," or, "yes, I saw myself becoming a better student after I had adopted this characteristic." As a language learner, I saw the breakdown of language ability levels and could slot myself into any one of them, depending on which point of my language learning history I was looking at.
This unit gave me to ability to articulate that which I had always known, but had never been able to put into words before -- exactly what made a good teacher, and the important traits that would give a student higher chances of success. I also now have a better understanding of what age/language level group I would potentially want to teach. I have left this unit with a strong knowledge of the most very basic elements of a classroom: its teacher and its students.
