This unit outlines the characteristics towards various kinds of learning equipment and teaching aids that teachers can deploy and practice during English lessons. Each of this has its advantages, disadvantages, and important things to take note of.
For examples, they include interactive white boards, visual aids, worksheets, cassette recorder, and video camera, and so on.
Furthermore, it also highlights that using video camera can be extremely useful in the classroom. The idea is that it can help teachers to record students’ learning performance (e.g. presentation) during an activity. After that, teachers can play it back to them for analysis and discussion to facilitate performance review.
The other observation is that although overhead project (OHP) is getting less popular as computers are widely in use in classrooms nowadays. It is still helpful for some of the activities like timed reading and gap fill exercises, while OHPs can be quite troublesome to operate.
Other than the equipment, I also discovered some more relevant learning resources books recommended by the author of this chapter, for examples, “Grammar Practice Activities by Penny Ur”, ‘Essential Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy” and “Grammar in Action by Mario Rinvolucri”, and so on.
In addition, the author also shares a lot of online dictionary, grammar reference, and English media websites which teachers and students can refer. For this, I would definitely spend more time to read through these books, and gain more useful teaching ideas and techniques for my future lessons.
