I do agree that writing practice in class is more or less neglected. As it requires a lot of time to complete a writing task, it can use up all the 45 min of a lesson. Moreover, when the lesson is once per week, it is something I cannot afford to do. I usually give it as a homework, but as it has been mentioned – homework is rarely done. So, I see how my students struggle with the spelling of a word they freely use when speaking and, I see handwriting of adults that looks like a child’s handwriting – total lack of practice. Unfortunately, neither in class nor at home my students have enough time to write. They are all working adults and I cannot even demand it.
