Evaluation and Testing play an important roles in assessing the students’ level and progress. Teachers need to evaluate the level of proficiency of students to prospectively plan the lessons based on their needs.
At the start, students may be given a placement test to distinguish their language ability or a diagnostic test to tell the teachers what the students do and don’t know at the beginning of the course. During the progress of teaching, teachers should use Progress test periodically to assess what they have learned. For students that are preparing for external exams, Practical tests must be facilitated.
Evaluation and Testing should not be done to rank the students in the class but to measure their progress, identify the individual strengths and weaknesses and determine the language level of students.
