From this unit, I learnt to pay more attention to how I speak and what I say: I find myself thinking in my spare time, "what parts of speech did I just use in that question?" or "is 'flour' a countable or uncountable noun? What about 'sugar?'" Because I am a native English speaker, I have rarely ever thought about/deconstructed my English in this way. However, now that I have begun to think about my speaking/sentence construction more critically, I am sure that will only benefit any of my future students with their studies. The material could be quite dry and at times I would think, 'I learnt this all in third grade, just let me get to the next unit!' but this knowledge will also allow me to grow as a teacher in regards to the assessor role -- by learning all these parts of speech, if a student is to make a mistake somewhere in their sentence construction, I will be able to more clearly and concisely correct them and provide valuable feedback.
