It was very important for me to learn about the different kinds of English lessons I could have in a classroom. This unit focused on three ways to teach a new language: new vocabulary words, grammar structures, and the functions of language. What I found most important and fascinating was the example activities for each topic, and for each level of Engage, Study, and Activate. I learned a lot about what ESA activities I can do for introducing vocabulary. Most especially, I learned a lot about ESA activities for grammatical structures, which I have struggled to think of ideas for in the past. Learning about possible ESA activities, particularly for the Study and the Activate phases, was really helpful. I also learned how to carefully select new vocabulary to introduce to students, based especially on frequency and coverage—I find that learning about words they encounter the most allows them to remember these words more easily.
