Unit fourteen taught me about the advantages of integrating authentic and created materials with the course books when designing an entire curriculum for students. Course books are especially invaluable to new teachers because they usually are accompanied by a teacher's book that gives instructions on how to teach the material and also provides content and tests that usually have been made for learners at a specific language level. Videos, audio tapes, student workbooks, and other materials also often accompany the textbooks and provide materials the teacher may have a hard time making or locating themselves. Even the syllabus the course book creates can act as a guide for how the teacher might want to construct their own syllabus. There are certain limitations and benefits of using each type of class material, but it will ultimately be up to the teacher to determine the needs of their classes and individual students and then create an integrated mix of effective materials and techniques.
