This unit provides an overview of ESL teaching methodologies and the Engage, Study, and Activate model of lesson planning. First, the unit reviews teaching methodologies with some of their benefits and drawbacks, then introduces the Engage, Study, and Activate model as the strategy most useful for beginning teachers. The unit provides examples of effective techniques for each of the stages in this model and provides example lesson plans. Throughout this unit, I feel I learned the importance of elicitation, and I also realized how ESL teachers I observed in the past made use of the Engage, Study, and Activate model.
