This is one of those lessons that as a native speaker you never give much of a thought to how to speak. It just comes naturally. It is also something that when you are talking with someone from another country and English is not their first language, you don't label every part of speech, you just talk, talk clearly and correct them if need be. For example: I go to store... today. It's better said I went to the store today after lunch. OR I will go to the store today.
