I learned ESA “Straight Arrow” focuses on three criterion: Engage, Study and Activate. The teacher engages the student, studies the language, and try to activate the language.
Engage stage is defined as the teacher showing students picture or video or mimes. For example, the teacher presents pictures of fruits and the learners state which fruits they see and whether or not they like the fruits they see and why. The teacher can explain in further by asking which of these fruits they have eaten, where or if these fruits grow in their country.
Study phase is defined as teacher showing students examples and elicits sentences from the students by asking “what can it do”. The teacher makes sure the students grammar and helps to correct the grammar.
Activate phase is defined students study in pairs and design their own “fruit”. The students will then make a demonstration to the class about the fruits they created and about what color it is and what is it.
