In unit twenty I learned how to deal with some of the common problems that can occur when teaching English. This unit said that establishing rapport with the students is imperative and that students need to feel like they are in a safe and fun learning environment. One way this achieved is through the use of warmers at the beginning of lessons to get students talking and interested in the lesson. Another way is by being accommodating to the students' needs by asking them what their needs and interests are at the beginning of the course, setting up pair work and controlled practice activities for students who speak less frequently, helping the students with their listening skills, and taking into account what could provide a better classroom experience. I learned that the teacher truly needs to try to get to know the students he or she works with in order to construct a good course that will meet their needs and hopefully personal interests as well.
