As I said last unit, this unit is an important unit with Unit 11. The ideas for eliciting speaking from students are vital as, in my experience, speaking is a large part of an ESL class. It is also the activity, with reading, that the student will probably engage in the most outside of the class. Engaging the class and keeping the class engaged to ensure all the students speak is vital. Writing is an activity that the students will engage in inside the class, but may not be as active outside, so it is important for the teacher to monitor the writing of the students in class (handwriting, spelling, punctuation). I am not sure how often it is done in ESL, but it also might be not a bad idea to ask students to write a small paragraph on different topics outside class to be checked by the teacher later (or shared with the class) and compared with in class writing activities.
