It is important to have up to date materials when teaching so the students are able to recognize the things you are talking about in class to things they see and do in everyday life. For example you would want to talk about a laptop or computer for typing not a typewriter because those aren't used today. I also know that it is important to read over your material before you present it because the course book isn't meant to be a step by step guide it is just supposed to be a general outline so you should substitute materials based on your class needs.
