This units covers how to teach the receptive skills, reading and listening. We learn that there are different ways of reading and listening, skimming a text, reading to find detailed information, listening in detail. This unit explains that there are difficulties in reading and listening and how to deal with the difficulties. We need to choose the correct level, pre-teach difficult vocabulary, interest the students as much as possible by finding interesting topics and different ones.
The most interesting part of this unit is where they give an example of a patchwork type lesson covering a text about Elvis Presley. We see a typical patchwork type lesson and I got a lot of ideas about activities to use. It is now clear for me how to conduct a lesson in which i want students to focus on receptive skills.
