In most cases, it is rather difficult to bring English learning foreign students to communicate with each other or with the teacher out of lack of confidence or interest in the topic, fear of making mistakes and sometimes even out of cultural reasons. Therefore, it is the teacher's obligation to create the need and desire in students to communicate.
In case of a speaking lesson, accuracy (used in the study phase) and fluency (used in the activate phase) are equally important however, in a typical ESA lesson, depending on the stage we are at, the focus could be on either one or the other.
Speaking activities can be accuracy based and controlled or accuracy based but more creative as guided activities or fluency based as part of creative communications.
Writing is more formal than speaking and greatly differs from it in grammar, vocabulary, spelling, handwriting and punctuation. However, during a writing lesson, the same factors need to be considered as for a speaking lesson.
Games are also fun and very useful tools to incorporate in the process of teaching these productive skills.
