In this unit we went over teaching productive skills. As opposed to receptive skills which were reading and listening, this is speaking and writing. We talked about the importance of fluency vs. accuracy and they both have a place in the classroom. It's important to remember when we're focusing on one over the other. It's also important to remember that there is a time and place for corrections, and to do so in a way that doesn't make the student afraid to use the language. This can be done with gestures, and quizzical looks. This can also be done by not correcting students during activities that are focused on fluency and encouraging the student to talk.
