Speaking and writing, the two productive skills, are used to communicate. Accuracy activities are used to produce correct language. Fluency activities allow students to experiment and be creative with the language. Controlled activities, such as drilling, and prompting, are controlled by the teacher and are focused on accuracy. With guided activities such as modeled dialogues and guided role-play, the output is controlled by the teacher but the output is not. Fluency activities have scenarios created by the teacher, but the language content is not. Examples include free role-play, discussions, information gap, debates, simulations, and communication games.
