This unit was a good review of how to use and choose a coursebook. It's really helped me to pinpoint my current feelings of dissatisfaction when I'm forced to follow a syllabus or use materials in a specific way that really benefit the students. As an ALT, it can be a little discouraging when I have to work in the classrooms that I don't have any input in and/or I'm asked to put together a random presentation that doesn't really engage the students. I now see the merits of textbooks in that they help students to get a sense of progression and completion though.
