This unit taught me how to troubleshoot common problems that I will encounter in the classroom. I learned that in the case of problems with listening materials, I should continue to use them and practice them with students instead of avoiding them entirely. To encourage reluctant students to participate, I can use pair/group work, role-plays, and continued, controlled practice. In regards to the use of native language in the classroom, I should encourage as much use of English as possible by giving clear instructions and lessons that are not too advanced for my students. This unit also gave tips on the teaching the first lessons of the year, dealing with large class sizes, and teaching different levels of students in the same class.
