I learned that lesson plans have a number of functions: serves as an aid to planning, it gives you something to refer to in class, and it serves as a record. There is no set way of writing down a lesson. Some will need a more formal lesson plan and others will just jot down notes. It is important to keep it simple, allocate time to activities, and make sure activities fit together for flow. But it should allow for flexibility and be open to adaptation. It is essential to be organised and have things set before the lesson. You have to make sure you have your lesson plan and needed material/aids. Be sure that your equipment is working and that you are ready to receive students into the class. The following things should be included in a lesson plan: learner objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids, anticipated problems, procedure, phase, timing, interaction, class level, number of students, date/time, and the teacher’s and observer’s names. It is good to evaluate your own lessons to assess the weaknesses and strengths of it. This will help you to improve it and make it as enjoyable as possible for students. Planning a sequence of lessons are more or less the same as planning a single lesson. Some issues to consider are flexibility, goals, revision, variety and balance.
