For me, the unit illustrates a fairly clear approach that expert teachers carry when using materials in the classroom. A knowledge of one's students will engender a possible need for teachers to adapt materials for their students. It seems to me that even the most novice of teachers who may prefer to use coursebooks in their classroom will likely supplement or adapt the materials they use from the text if they have a strong understanding of their student's interests, ability level, and potential challenges. I think this goes to show that students are not limited to a single type or image, and that in order to attend to individual differences, a teacher must be flexible and responsive.
