In this unit I learned about how to asses students and what level of English proficiency they are at, which will be helpful when creating lesson plans and conducting classes. I learned what NOT to do to retain my students' concentration, motivation and encourage their retention of the language. I learned to keep things interesting in class, to not put too much pressure on the students (especially when speaking English in front of the class), to be patient, to be a good example, follow my own rules and to offer only encouragement. When a student says or writes or reads something inaccurately, I should be encouraging them to continue to try and do their best and give them a helpful nudge in the right direction.
