This lesson stressed the importance of two of the four receptive skills, reading and listening, and what (specific skills) is need to read and listen productively. I was surprised by all of the different types of reading and listening, from scanning to detailed information. I also learned the importance of the material given to students to read, as it must be chosen carefully with the student's interests and reading level in mind, and that it is okay to pre-teach vocabulary before having students read.
