There are five kinds of conditional phrases. These kinds are the zero, first, second, third, and mixed conditional. The zero conditional essentially refers to actions that are not up for debate. For example, if you take a piece of paper and cut it, you get a slit of some sort. The remaining conditional statements refer to future and hypothetical situations. In regards to reported speech, the form of the verb changes in the phrase, but many of the other elements remain the same. When direct speech is changed to reported speech, all forms change as well except in the past perfect and past perfect continuous style.
