This unit gave me a better understanding of how to teach reading and listening (receptive) skills to students. Most prior units have focused on teaching aspects of grammar (past tenses, present tenses, etc.), so I found it helpful to see how the ESA format can also be used to bring a variety of texts into the classroom to practice listening and reading skills. Using authentic texts in class seems particularly useful for generating student interest in English by having them practice their receptive skills with texts related to music, movies, TV shows, or other media they like.
