This unit discussed the importance of behavior management, fundamentally important for students to benefit from instruction. Also important, and often overlooked, in my opinion, is building repour with students and not the other way around. Although, the Affective Filter Hypothesis is only a hypothesis for language acquisition, I have seen student learning in general, impacted by non-language related issues related to self-confidence and anxiety. Student learning is impacted. They give up, suffer in silence or act out because they perceive their failure is because the teacher does not care about them as much as the other students. This was an excellent unit and happy that building repour was included as an important ingredient for language acquisition.
