This unit discussed course materials and how to balance authentic and created work within a lesson, as well as how to balance studying directly out of a book with supplementary materials. This seems to be a common theme throughout the course, but the general consensus is that a successful class/lesson will have a little bit of everything. I am excited to bring authentic materials to my students in order to show them true American culture. I also enjoyed reading through the different role play exercises as I think these real-life scenarios will help students feel much more confident in their English-speaking abilities. As a beginning teacher, I certainly plan on basing most of my lessons off of a trusted course book; however, I am excited to bring in my own created materials as well, because trial and error on this front will help me grow as a teacher and will help my students grow as English language learners.
