This unit reminded me yet again that there are tons of nuances to the English language that as a native speaker, I rarely ever think about. To be honest, I was unaware that there were four tenses within the past, present, and future. This unit thoroughly went through each aspect of the present tense and outlined how the simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous present tenses all have different roles. I am teaching in Indonesia next year, where the native language only has one tense. I can already predict that my students are going to have a lot of difficulty learning the many tenses within the English language due to this fact, and thus I am glad to have had this unit. One aspect that will remain confusing to me is the idea of habits and rituals and how sometimes they can be in the present simple and sometimes in the present continuous. The most helpful part of this unit was learning about the distinction between the present perfect and the present perfect continuous and how although they both relate the past to the present, the present perfect focuses more on a completed task/result, whereas the present perfect continuous places more of an emphasis on the action/activity that is currently in progress and/or has been/was in progress for a long time.
