I have learnt that about receptive skills such as reading and listening.
Reading and listening are either for a purpose or for leisure. On some occasions we read/listen to attain detailed information to carry out a specific purpose/activity, at other times, we read/listen for enjoyment/pleasure. An example of reading/listening for a specific purpose is when we read instructions to assemble something. An example of reading/listening for leisure is when we read our favourite book or listen to songs on the radio.
Skills for reading/listening include, predictive/scanning/skimming/detailed and deduction.
